Late one Oxford night Daniel P Dykes set about creating a fashion publication that would go someway to being an arbiter on fashion as it appeals to the emerging power generations: those who don't remember a world without the Internet and for whom work plays second fiddle to pleasure. And so Fashionising.com was born as a publication for those who were focussed not just on fashion's trends, but on society's too, and how those trends could all go to heighten the art of living. Hence, Daniel sees a future where, for those young at heart, both fashion and style are grounded in traditional quality, but with a youthful, sensualised edge. Daniel is Fashionising.com's Editor in Chief and Chairman.

Sicilian romance and adventure

Last we checked in on Catrinel Menghia she was partaking in a European adventure through Italy’s rustic fishing villages, high heels on cobbled streets and classic curves catching the eye of locals. That was in issue 6 of Bambi magazine, and now the romance continues in issue 7 with Part 2 of A Sicilian Adventure, photographed by Michel Perez.
These scenes aren’t just visually beautiful, they’re the kind that draw you in – and away. There’s a stirring of desire in the viewer to be on that open balcony, basking in the morning sun and the soft Mediterranean breeze; to be picking ripe juicy oranges with bare feet on cool grass; to experience the romance of those places even if it means packing one’s suitcase and skipping on a plane right now.

And for readers currently being drawn towards a cold winter, isn’t that allure of sun particularly strong for you?

Some people's wardrobes are about a small selection of pieces that all fit within one aesthetic - Tania Braukamper isn't such a person. With a wardrobe that spans three different rooms, her approach to fashion is a mixture of current-season key pieces mixed with vintage finds she's sourced on innumerous shopping trips around the world's more cultured capitals. Despite a disparate approach to shopping, Tania is adamant that the key to mixing vintage with new season is to stick to key looks and colours that work for oneself. And it's a theory that she works into her writing for Fashionising.com, where she serves as the publication's Editor.

Cowgirls-gone-wild: PPQ

Powder puff pink, palest mint green, faded peach – the first few looks out on the PPQ spring 2012 catwalk made us sit up and wonder where the label’s usual don’t-mess-with-me attitude had gone. Well, it hadn’t disappeared entirely; the super short hems on those dresses still provided sass in spades. Nonetheless, design team Amy Molyneaux and Percy Parker’s favourite colour soon showed up and dominated the rest of the show.
All in black, a model in skinny jeans and matching tucked-in shirt, topped off with a Wild West villain’s hat and eye mask was the most literal translation of the designers’ cowgirl-tomboy riff. Naturally it followed that blue denim featured heavily, again doubled up in shirt and jean combinations and often with candy-coloured pops of embroidery. Black denim was liberally scattered with gold PPQ crests and buckles, and more hardware came in the form of costume jewels and hefty accessories. According to the notes these were ‘inheritance pieces to be’ to which the show’s title, Heirloom Blues, referred.

Maybe this was a clever bit of signposting (Molyneaux and Parker have indicated that jewellery is the next step for their brand) but it didn’t feel contrived: a leather harness set with bright chunky crystals was the epitome of the season’s pop art cowgirl-gone-wild.

Sass & Bide bring summer 2012 to London fashion week

From Australia with love we have the fab duo Sarah-Jane Clarke and Heidi Middleton that is Sass and Bide and their breathtaking spring 2012 collection at London fashion week.
As first impressions go it’s safe to say that aliens could’ve landed and we wouldn’t have batted an eyelid. A melange of colours flew down the catwalk with textures, prints and silhouettes to die for. We saw a refreshed version of the colour blocking trend being carried over into next Summer with added spice. In terms of colours, there is no second-guessing that this brand has it all figured out. As far as the spring 2012 colour trends go it is all about the fresh side of a palette; here we see shades of navy, neon yellow, tangerine, Hawaiian lime and some bright teal all fused together into a wearable collection.

Amidst the busy playground of tribal prints and over-sized polka dots, what caught our eye the most was the mixture of fabrics and shapes; a metallic leather skirt in futuristic blue, paired with a plain clashing tee makes for a summer evening soiree. Where as an origami-esque piece which was teamed with a bead encrusted cropped vest is what holidays are made of. The catwalk was effortlessly styled by Wonderland’s fashion director Julia Sarr-Jamois, and with this knowledge is safe to assume that the woman knows her stuff!
The brand has made its mark in the industry for being an easy-to-wear and chic option for any woman. Bringing a sophisticated approach to the trends laid out for next summer it’s no doubt that Sass and Bide has evolved and will continue to bring us what is no less than an ovation worthy show, and season.
